Welcome! I have been notified that you are interested in applying for financial aid to help fund your online program. The financial aid programs at Iowa Central provide an opportunity for higher education by removing financial barriers that often prevent students from attending. Based on federal regulations, the Financial Aid Office determines your eligibility for aid. To be considered for these funds you must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you are applying financial aid, it is important that you complete the FAFSA as soon as possible to allow time for your award notification as well as other required paperwork.

Step 1: FSAID

What is an FSA ID?

An FSA ID is a username and password that you must use to log in to certain U.S. Department of Education (ED) websites. Your FSA ID identifies you as someone who has the right to access your own personal information on ED websites such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) at

Your FSA ID is used to sign legally binding documents electronically. It has the same legal status as a written signature. Don’t give your FSA ID to anyone—not even to someone helping you fill out the FAFSA. Sharing your FSA ID could put you at risk of identity theft!

Parental Information Needed?

2017-2018 FAFSA (See table below for the FAFSA year that pertains to you)

If your answer is “Yes” to any of the questions, you will not be required to submit parental information on the FAFSA.

  • Were you born before January 1, 1994?
  • As of today, are you married? (Also answer “Yes” if you are separated but not divorced.)
  • At the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year, will you be working on a master’s or doctorate program (such as an MA, MBA, MD, JD, PhD, EdD, graduate certificate, etc.)?
  • Are you currently serving on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces for purposes other than training?
  • Are you a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces?
  • Do you have children who will receive more than half of their support from you between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018?
  • Do you have dependents (other than your children or spouse) who live with you and who receive more than half of their support from you, now and through June 30, 2018?
  • At any time since you turned age 13, were both your parents deceased, were you in foster care or were you a dependent or ward of the court?
  • As determined by a court in your state of legal residence, are you or were you an emancipated minor?
  • As determined by a court in your state of legal residence, are you or were you in legal guardianship?
  • At any time on or after July 1, 2016, did your high school or school district homeless liaison determine that you were an unaccompanied youth who was homeless?
  • At any time on or after July 1, 2016, did the director of an emergency shelter or transitional housing program funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development determine that you were an unaccompanied youth who was homeless?
  • At any time on or after July 1, 2016, did the director of a runaway or homeless youth basic center or transitional living program determine that you were an unaccompanied youth who was homeless or were self-supporting and at risk of being homeless?

Step 2: File the FAFSA

Once you receive your PIN, complete the FAFSA at Iowa Central’s school code is 004597. You must have your Federal tax information to complete the FAFSA. Both Iowa Central and you will then receive the results of your processed FAFSA. If you have previously completed a FAFSA for another school, you can simply add Iowa Central to your FAFSA.

Please see table below for the FAFSA that pertains to you.

If you have any questions while completing the FAFSA, you can call FAFSA customer service at
1-800-433-3243 or our office at 1-800-362-2793 ext. 1092 or 1095.

Step 3: Additional items to complete your Financial Aid

Once your results are received, the Financial Aid Office will contact you to complete the final steps in the financial aid clearance process. One in three students is selected for a process called verification. In the verification process, Iowa Central is required to gather additional documents from the student. Selection is a random process and does not indicate a denial of federal aid. However, it is absolutely necessary if you are selected that you provide the additional requested information in a timely manner. Our Financial Aid Office is here to assist you and will be able to help with your verification. You will receive additional paperwork via email that must be completed, signed, and faxed back to the Financial Aid Office at 1-515-576-7342. Once the additional paperwork, if required, is complete and received by the Financial Aid Office, you will receive your Award Letter Notification along with instructions and the Stafford Loan information. These documents must be completed in order for your financial aid to be processed. It is very important that you complete your Award Letter paperwork as soon as you receive it.

Congratulations on your decision to pursue your college education!
